The aim of the second conference of the 'English in Europe' Network was to gain a comparative understanding of the debates surrounding the role and status of English in Europe in academic and research settings. Topics, which emerged in the first conference (Sheffield, 20-22 April 2012), included, but not limited to:

• Discourses of English as a lingua franca in academic and research settings
• The publish in English or perish dilemma
• Language attitudes towards the advancement of English
• English language hegemony vs. minority national languages
• Language contact and language change
• The teaching of English for Academic Purposes
• English as a lingua franca and academic enculturation
• Codification of academic English(es)
• Language policies regarding the use of English
• Comparison with and across areas of the world
